mtPaint and a gradient

I can add a gradient, but can't make the damn thing stay!!! No matter what I click it disappears. Anyone familiar with mtPaint who know how?

It just gives you a preview. After the preview looks good, you have to use a painting tool (probably the fill tool) to fill it with the gradient. But when you do it make sure that the "Gradient Mode" is on. Do this by going to the settings toolbar (press F7) and click on the long rectangle that looks like your gradient. Then wherever you paint will be filled with that gradient, until you turn gradient mode off.
